What AMSA-AI Does
AMSA-AI is a pilot in AI literacy and mentorship. It helps elected women, civil-society leaders and local advisory bodies use AI safely and practically in their governance work. It brings together four elements:
- A locally adapted AI mentor grounded in trusted governance content, available on the web and on WhatsApp.
- Practical training built around the procedures and communication tasks that local actors face.
- Human-centred co-design, so that the people who will use the tool decide what it is for.
- Safeguards on privacy, misinformation, source verification and responsible use, including clear signals for when human, legal or institutional guidance is needed.
What the Pilot Has Achieved
The first implementation is in Béni Mellal-Khénifra, where AIDECA has promoted inclusive local development and civic participation since 1996. So far:
- 115 local stakeholders have taken part in co-design workshops.
- The tool has supported 25 elected women and 10 civil-society leaders.
- The team has identified priority use cases for women’s participation, civic engagement and access to governance information.

Why This Selection Matters
Debates on AI governance usually happen at national and global level. AMSA-AI starts from the municipal council, the local association and the advisory committee, where public decisions affect people directly and where access to reliable guidance on AI is often thinnest.
The Paris Peace Forum’s selection recognises that approach. Its 2026 cohort is also weighted towards the Global South, which accounts for 68% of the selected projects. The selection comes a few months after AMSA-AI was showcased at the AI for Good Global Summit during Geneva AI Week 2026.
In Paris, 10–11 November
At the 9th Paris Peace Forum, selected projects present their work in the Space for Solutions to decision-makers, experts and civil-society actors from around the world. The AMSA-AI team will use the Forum to:
- Present the pilot’s results and safeguards.
- Meet partners and funders interested in adapting the model in other Southern Mediterranean countries.
- Exchange with the other selected projects working on AI literacy and skilling.
The Forum will also announce its 2026–2027 Scale-up Program cohort during the event: ten of the 40 selected projects will receive a year of tailored, non-financial support.
What Comes Next
Through EuroMedAI, AMSA-AI is designed for replication across the Southern Mediterranean. A Tunisian organisation has already expressed readiness to adapt the model, and we are looking for country partners in Algeria, Tunisia, Jordan and Lebanon. Read the call for country partners to find out how to take part.
AMSA-AI’s pilot is implemented by AIDECA under the Digital Democracy Initiative Middle East & North Africa (DDI MENA), led by Innovation for Change – MENA Hub with the support of CIVICUS. We thank them, and we congratulate the 39 other projects selected for the Forum.
