AMSA-AI: Inclusive AI Literacy for Local Governance

EuroMedAI supported the launch of the AMSA-AI platform, an initiative for inclusive AI literacy in local governance across the Mediterranean. Under the Digital Democracy Initiative Middle East & North Africa (DDI MENA), led by Innovation for Change: MENA Hub with support from CIVICUS, the platform helps local stakeholders (elected officials, civil society leaders, public officials, and researchers) use AI safely, responsibly, and effectively in their communities.

What it delivers

  • Digital Security & AI Safety

Training local stakeholders on safe use of AI, privacy protection, and identifying AI-generated misinformation.

  • Hands-On AI Literacy

Practical workshops with locally developed AI tools tailored to territorial governance and community action.

  • Inclusive & Human-Centered

Ensuring AI literacy reaches women, youth, and underrepresented voices in local decision-making.

Partners: Launched with DDI MENA, Innovation for Change, and CIVICUS support

AI Readiness Framework for the South Mediterranean

A comparative framework assessing the AI maturity of eight South Mediterranean countries across compute, data governance, skills, adoption, and enabling strategies. Building on the UN Global Digital Compact and the Secretary-General's report A/79/966, it maps countries onto a five-tier maturity scale and proposes practical pathways for capacity building.

What it delivers

  • Comparative Maturity Assessment

Eight South Mediterranean countries classified across a five-tier AI maturity scale, from nascent capabilities to AI developers.

  • Anchored in the Global Digital Compact

Aligned with the UN Global Digital Compact and report A/79/966 on innovative voluntary financing for AI capacity-building.

  • Practical Policy Pathways

Phased national AI strategies, regional compute and data cooperation, and blended financing to advance through maturity tiers.
