EuroMedAI Supports the Launch of AMSA-AI Platform for Inclusive AI Literacy

EuroMedAI is pleased to support the launch of AMSA-AI, a platform dedicated to inclusive AI literacy for local governance actors across the Mediterranean.

The platform responds to a growing need in cities, municipalities, civil society organisations, and public institutions: artificial intelligence is becoming part of everyday public work, but many local actors still lack accessible, practical, and context-sensitive guidance on how to use these tools safely and responsibly.

AMSA-AI was developed within the framework of the Digital Democracy Initiative Middle East & North Africa (DDI MENA), led regionally by Innovation for Change – MENA Hub with the support of CIVICUS. Through this collaboration, the platform contributes to a wider effort to strengthen democratic participation, digital resilience, and locally grounded technology use in the region.

Why AMSA-AI Matters

Local governance is one of the places where the social impact of AI becomes most visible. Elected officials, civil society leaders, public servants, researchers, and community organisers are increasingly asked to make sense of AI-generated information, assess digital risks, and decide whether new tools are appropriate for public-interest work.

AMSA-AI helps address this gap by focusing on:

  • Digital security and AI safety, including privacy protection, misinformation awareness, and critical interpretation of AI outputs.
  • Practical AI literacy, with learning resources and hands-on guidance connected to real local governance needs.
  • Inclusive participation, ensuring that women, young people, and underrepresented voices are included in conversations about AI and public decision-making.

EuroMedAI’s Role

EuroMedAI supported the platform’s launch as part of its broader mission to connect Mediterranean actors working on responsible AI governance, civic innovation, and inclusive digital transformation.

This support builds on EuroMedAI’s ongoing work with local stakeholders, including the May 2026 online masterclass on digital security and the safe use of generative AI for territorial actors in Morocco. That session brought together elected representatives, civil society leaders, public officials, and researchers to explore how AI can be used in ways that protect rights, strengthen trust, and serve communities.

From Awareness to Responsible Use

The launch of AMSA-AI marks an important step toward making AI literacy more accessible to the people closest to local public challenges. For EuroMedAI, the platform reflects a simple principle: responsible AI governance cannot remain only at the level of national strategies or global debates. It must also be translated into practical knowledge, usable tools, and shared learning at the local level.

EuroMedAI will continue to support initiatives that help Mediterranean communities engage with AI critically, safely, and creatively.
