Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2027: Applications Now Open

Applications are open for the 2027 Mitacs Globalink Research Internship: a funded, 12-week research experience at a Canadian academic institution between May and October 2027. For the Euro-Mediterranean community, the key detail is geographic: France, Jordan and Tunisia are the three eligible countries in the wider Mediterranean region for this cohort, each with its own academic, citizenship and discipline requirements.

The programme places international undergraduates with Canadian faculty-led projects across science, engineering and mathematics, as well as the humanities and social sciences. Applications close on Wednesday, 16 September 2026 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time.

Mediterranean Applicants: Three Eligible Routes

Eligibility is based on the country and institution where the student is enrolled, with citizenship rules added for some routes. Applicants must satisfy both the general Mitacs requirements and the conditions for their country.

These are the only three country routes in the 2027 list that fall within EuroMedAI’s wider Mediterranean focus. Other Mediterranean countries are not listed as standalone study-country routes for this cohort. Because the French route has no citizenship requirement, however, an international student enrolled at an eligible French university may still qualify through France.

France: Additional Detail

• Institution: all French universities.
• Citizenship: no citizenship requirement.
• Programme stage: University Grenoble Alpes (UGA) applicants must be registered in L3, M1, or the first or second year of an engineering programme. Other applicants must be registered in L3 or M1 during the internship.
• Disciplines: all disciplines, including the social sciences and humanities.
• Grades: at least 13/20 (70%) for UGA applicants; at least 12/20 (60%) for all others.
• Language and documents: UGA requires B2 English and a signed certificat de soutien from the applicant’s academic unit. No language-proficiency exam is listed for other French applicants.

Jordan: Additional Detail

• Institution and citizenship: all Jordanian universities; Jordanian citizenship is required.
• Programme: full-time undergraduate or combined undergraduate–master’s programme.
• Disciplines: IT and engineering.
• Grades and language: at least 70% and IELTS 5.0.
• Age: applicants must be between 20 and 35 and currently enrolled at a university in Jordan.

Tunisia: Additional Detail

• Institution and citizenship: all Tunisian public universities; Tunisian citizenship is required.
• Programme: full-time undergraduate or combined undergraduate–master’s programme, specifically the third year of engineering studies.
• Graduation window: between 1 September and 31 December 2028.
• Grades: at least 80% and placement in the top 20% of the class.
• Additional condition: participation requires a jointly signed agreement with the student’s supervisor confirming completion of the final-year project (projet de fin d’études, or PFE) during the Globalink internship.

What the Internship Provides

The Globalink award includes:

• A contribution towards round-trip airfare to Canada and transport from the airport to accommodation.
• A housing stipend, plus support for food and incidental expenses.
• A contribution towards student enrolment fees at the host institution.
• Emergency health insurance for the duration of the internship.
• Support from student mentors on the Canadian campus.
• Access to industry events and professional-development courses.

More than 70 Canadian academic institutions participate in the programme. Interns work under faculty supervision alongside graduate students and research associates, combining hands-on research with professional development and an international academic experience.

General Eligibility for the 2027 Cohort

In addition to the country-specific rules above, applicants must:

• Be at least 18 years old when applying.
• Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or combined undergraduate–master’s programme at an eligible institution.
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study, or be enrolled in the second year of their current programme, subject to the more specific country rules.
• Have one to three semesters remaining in their programme as of autumn 2027, again subject to the country-specific requirements.
• Meet the grade threshold for their country of study.
• Apply to between three and ten projects, selecting projects in at least three different Canadian provinces.
• Be fluent in the working language of each selected project, in English and/or French.
• Be available for 12 consecutive weeks between 1 May and 31 October 2027, with a start date between 1 May and 31 July.
• Not have previously received a Globalink Research Internship project.

Research-security restrictions may also apply where a proposed project advances a sensitive technology research area and the applicant has an affiliation connected to a named research organisation. Applicants should answer all declarations accurately and review the official rules.

Prepare the Application

Mitacs recommends assembling the core documents before submission:

1. A reference letter from a professor who has supervised or co-supervised the applicant and can discuss their academic and research experience. It must be signed and issued on institutional letterhead.
2. An up-to-date CV, using either the applicant’s own format or the Mitacs template.
3. Academic transcripts in English or French. Transcripts issued in another language must be translated and notarised.
4. A valid passport. Applicants may submit without a currently valid passport, but successful candidates will later need passport details; Mitacs advises validity through at least January 2028.
5. Language evidence where the country route requires it, notably IELTS 5.0 for Jordan and B2 English documentation for UGA applicants.

The application also asks candidates to explain their research interests, skills, achievements and motivation for conducting research in Canada. Assessment considers eligibility, cumulative grades, the statement of interest, the reference letter and the match between the student’s experience and the selected projects. Incomplete applications are not assessed.
